Hello
My name is Laurie. I'm at a place in life where I want to do meaningful work that is congruent with my beliefs and worldview. I want to support the Christian community. It is hard to separate our mental health from our spiritual health. As Christians, we often beat ourselves up saying things to ourselves such as “I shouldn’t be depressed… or anxious,” or have panic attacks, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), or Bipolar Disorder, etc. Christians often delay getting help for their mental health because they feel like they should be able to overcome these issues through Christ alone. I absolutely love that mindset. Christ is our healer, but I also acknowledge that we live in a fallen world. Jesus said to his disciples in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble.” In my study bible, the word trouble occurs 65 times. Trouble can have so many forms, within and without. If your heart is troubled, and you think it may be time to meet with a Christian provider for therapy and/or medication, please contact me.
My Story
I was born in Philadelphia and raised in Maryland. My Dad was a pastor; I am one of six children. I attended Wheaton College, in Wheaton, IL for three years (Pre-Nursing Major), then University of Maryland for Nursing School. I have been a Registered Nurse since 1992. I worked in cardiothoracic surgery in Baltimore two years, then moved West to Wyoming. I was blown away by the Rocky Mountains—they stole my heart! I lived in Lander, Wyoming 1994-2000. I was a Labor & Delivery nurse and later a home visiting nurse for pregnant and parenting teens on the Wind River Indian Reservation (Eastern Shoshone and Arapahoe nations). It was during this time that I decided to go back to school for a master’s in counseling at Denver Seminary. I graduated from Den Sem in 2003; married my incredible husband in 2004, and moved to Fort Drum, NY. I was suddenly an Army wife! My husband deployed twice with the 10th Mountain Division. We have been blessed with three children. Through my husband’s civilian position, we have lived in Little Rock, Arkansas (where I completed 2000 hours of supervision for my License in Professional Counseling in 2013); Winchester, Tennessee (where I attended UT Knoxville for my Masters in Nursing graduating in December 2015); Ramstein, Germany (where I worked at Landstuhl American Military hospital with active duty soldiers and their family members); and now Colorado Springs, CO is home. I worked at Cottonwood Creek Wellness Center initially, and the last three years at Mantra, a college telehealth company. We are active in our local church and a smaller community group. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, hiking, keeping my hummingbird feeder stocked, and hanging out with family. I also dabble in sourdough breadmaking.
